It’s time to renew your membership in the GRA. We recently emailed out renewal forms, so look for them in your inbox. If your organization did not receive one, email Nancy Rose at firstname.lastname@example.org. We have an exciting year ahead. In addition to the new website and GRA reporter, we are planning opportunities for members to connect through Slack. Know of other organizations or individuals who should be members of the GRA? Send them here to find out more.
GRA members are invited to participate in a discussion with other users of governmental financial information, hosted by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The subject of the “user forum” is the GASB’s recent proposals for improvements to the financial statements and other parts of a state or local government’s annual audited financial report and recent proposals on concepts related to recognition of elements of financial statements.
You can choose between two dates and locations:
- March 6, 2019, near O’Hare Airport, beginning at 8:30–11:30 a.m. local time
- March 14, 2019, near LaGuardia Airport, beginning at 1:00–4:00 p.m. local time.
User forums offer GRA organizations the opportunity to provide feedback to the GASB members and staff in a less-formal setting than a public hearing. Participants are asked questions about whether and how the proposed improvements would benefit them in making decisions, analyzing government finances, or assessing government accountability. The questions are shared with the participants in advance of the forum. More information about the user forums can be found in the GASB’s proposals: Preliminary Views, Financial Reporting Model Improvements, and Preliminary Views, Recognition of Elements of Financial Statements.
It is preferred that participants attend the user forums in person. However, participation by telephone is available if you cannot attend in person. You can notify the GASB of your intention to participate by email: email@example.com. Please indicate if you intend to participate in person or by telephone. If you have questions about the GASB proposal or the user forums, you can contact Roberta Reese at firstname.lastname@example.org.
